Duty points, not adjectives
These are the kinds of jobs AMCO pumps are selected for, written the way an engineer reads them: flow, head, fluid, duration, package and result. Bring us your duty point and we will tell you which model fits and where it sits on the curve.
Sewer bypass
Gravity main replacement, municipal collection system
- Flow
- 4,200 GPM
- Total head
- 95 ft
- Fluid
- Raw sewage, rag and grit
- Duration
- 7 weeks, continuous
- Package
- 2 × APCD150 + 1 standby
The problem
A 30-inch gravity main had to be taken out of service while the contractor replaced 900 ft of pipe. An overflow would have meant a reportable event and a stop-work order.
What we supplied
Two auto-prime APCD150 units carried the flow with a third on automatic standby, level-controlled from float switches, with air-release valves and check valves on the discharge manifold.
The outcome
Zero overflow events across the bypass. Automatic standby start-up removed the need for a night watchman on the sump, and the standby unit ran only 11 hours across the whole job.
Construction dewatering
Deep foundation excavation, coastal site
- Flow
- 1,800 GPM
- Total head
- 70 ft
- Fluid
- Silty groundwater, fine sand
- Duration
- 5 months
- Package
- 3 × STP6, diesel and electric
The problem
Groundwater inflow kept the excavation below grade wet and the previous pumps were losing prime overnight as the sump level dropped.
What we supplied
Self-priming STP6 trash pumps handled the sand-laden water, with suction strainers sized to keep velocity down and one electric unit run off site power to reduce fuel and noise near occupied buildings.
The outcome
Continuous dry excavation with no unplanned stoppages attributed to dewatering, and seal life on the wear parts ran the full mobilisation on the scheduled kit change.
Mining & industrial
Tailings pond transfer during storm recovery
- Flow
- 2,600 GPM
- Total head
- 215 ft
- Fluid
- Abrasive slurry, 6% solids
- Duration
- 3 weeks
- Package
- 2 × APHH5614 in series-ready set
The problem
Storm water had to be moved up a long uphill run to a holding pond within a regulator deadline, at a head no standard trash pump could reach.
What we supplied
High-head APHH units on trailers, hard-piped for the lift, with hammer unions and a check valve arrangement chosen for the static head so shutdown did not slam the line.
The outcome
Pond level was drawn back inside the permitted freeboard ahead of the deadline, with wear parts pulled from Houston stock in two days when the abrasive duty shortened the first seal change.

Representative applications
The duty figures above describe representative projects for these pump series rather than named customer contracts; project names and references are shared on request, with the customer's permission. Send us a real duty point and we will confirm model selection against the published curve.
